The Salzach valley had been deeply grazed - the Achen valley, however, was subdued by much less ice erosion. Robust stone areas within the area of the valley opening strengthened the waterfall levels, which had been left behind within extraordinary heights. The Krimml Ache springs from the foot of the Dreiherrenspitze within a large glacier gate. Typical for the glacier stream are the heavily changing water flow conditions during the day and within the course of the year, which are subject to strong fluctuations by the deglaciation of snow and ice.
